I wanted to share a little about my skin journey and what lead me to the skin care line I am currently using today. I would say the majority of my life, I considered myself to have troubled skin. In some form or fashion, I always dealt with breakouts, hives, melasma etc. Like most, I have used tons of products and spent a ton of money on products that never fully lived up to my expectations. Don’t get me wrong, I have used products I liked and even recommended, but nothing I felt really changed my skin significantly and kept it in good shape for any decent period of time.
Once I began my journey on healthier eating and paying attention to the ingredients in my food, I gradually began to make the same changes and switch over my personal care products to “all natural” and “organic” lines. With many of the products, I may not of been 100% satisfied with the performance, but I felt better knowing the ingredients were clean.
Fast forward to 2016 and I was preparing to go through the Whole30 program. While preparing for the month ahead, I was constantly researching ingredients and learning more about how I would be eating for that month. Well, do you ever have one of those days where you are searching for something on the internet and then three hours later……… Yeah, well three hours later, I stumbled on a post by a paleo blogger about this mascara that she had fallen in love with, so naturally I clicked on it. The mascara was from a company I had never heard of and through a series of click…click… click… I was wrapped up in reading about this new company that was on a mission to get safer products into the hands of everyone. On their site, I read some things that actually surprised me about the lack of regulation in the personal care industry. I thought I was pretty educated on the subject, but quickly found out, I had gaps in my knowledge. As an example, I had no idea that terms like “organic” are not regulated in personal care products. I assumed (yes, we know what that means) that organic products in personal care products were regulated like organic food products; not the case.
Well, this information intrigued me enough to find a consultant by me and learn more. I am so glad a made that call and was introduced to Beautycounter! To say I was blown away by the products is an under statement. They made such an improvement in my skin! (Looking back, I think it is pretty funny I clicked to originally read about a mascara, but my first order contained no mascara haha! – Sort of like going into Target…..)
The more I learned about this company and what made them different, I knew there was a fit for me. With this blog, I want to share the best of my health and wellness finds and help educate where I can. Beautycounter prides itself on being an education first company. The goal is to share information so that you can make an informed decision about the products that you and your family use every day. If I can help you make a safer choice, whether its Beautycounter or not; I have done my job.
Some pictures over the years of my troubled skin. You can see the breakouts and melasma (pigmentation problems). I have tried to use different lighting in different pics to highlight where the melasma is.
Before and After starting my Beautycounter regimen. These pictures are abut one month apart, taken towards the end of 2016.
I have switched all my makeup over to safer products as well. Generally speaking, I am not that into makeup; however, I am making an attempt to learn a little and explore some of the beautiful color options available. In the past, I pretty much wore make up in order to cover up my problem skin. Since changing out my products, I have seen such an improvement that I no longer feel like I need to wear makeup. Seriously, I use to feel like I needed to wear makeup to go workout. I do still have some melasma and pigmentation issues; however, I love how the cream blush I use most days seems to cover it pretty flawlessly. I plan to do a separate post soon on the products I use from the Beautycounter makeup line.
The line I originally started with is no longer available; however, my new found love is the Countermatch Line. This line takes hydration to the next level and gives your skin exactly what it needs and nothing it doesn’t. My skin is LOVING this line!
